Parametric design of a wooden structure

With elegance and simplicity, this design proposal aims to provide a new impact on Park Lackenbach's connection to visitors. Attracting not only guests coming from the draisine station but as well visitors to the museum, the park is becoming the new attraction in the middle of nature. The wooden canopies — all made of the same structural system — can vary in use. For kids, there is the researchers pavilion, for grown-ups, there is a hammock pavilion to relax, an informative canopy about the museum or a place for barbecue.
The garden as new primary focus on the site needs to be usable especially during spring and summer time. The pavillions provide shade with some textile coverings, that can be added easily or a green roof, that connects the pavillions directly with nature.
The task of the first phase was to develop an integral concept and one prototype of a canopy, that connects the draisine stop at Esterhàzy's »Schloss Lackenbach« with optional other canopies at the site that may be used in different ways and give a new Identity to the site.
After the responsible team of Esterházy selected the final design proposal, they wanted to be realized on site, teams were re-organized and work was split. The selected proposal was adjusted to the winning concept. Furthermore, technical details like the connection of the frames and the foundation needed to be considered. The finished plans were sent to a local carpentry, that fabricated the pieces ready for assembling. During one weekend the whole team built up the wooden canopy. The so-called »Holzschwelle« was opened with an exhibition of all design works at »Schloss Lackenbach« in July 2o15.
